There are good reasons behind this change and we are not alone in recognising the importance of the growing Asian markets for Spanish property. By the end of 2014, Spain is due to become the number one European property investment choice for Chinese buyers, a position previously held by close neighbour, Portugal.

A report by Newswire Today earlier in the year indicated that the special immigration programmes set up by many European countries have had a major effect on the choice of destination when buyers from the Asian countries consider purchasing property abroad. The report stated that in China in particular, there has been a huge increase in  interest in real estate within Spain, Portugal and Cyprus, among other hotspots and it is being seen as no coincidence that these countries have recently all introduced so-called “Golden Visas” for non-European property purchasers. These visas mean that non-Europeans who buy property in these countries can obtain European residence permits and gain access to commercial and personal opportunities as long as they fulfil certain stipulated criteria such as the need to buy property over a certain value.

However, as Chinese interest in Spain and it’s neighbouring European countries increases, huge drops in interest have been seen in other geographical areas. This is most noticeable in the United States, previously a favourite among Chinese buyers, where there has been a marked reduction in Chinese nationals buying residential property, as well as a smaller reduction in commercial and retail property purchases.

With this news, Spain once again shows that it is capable of providing a cosmopolitan destination, where people from all around the world can enjoy the vivid history, exciting culture and superb climate that makes each day a joy in this special place.
