Summer is almost here!

Summer is on it’s way!.. But does it really make a huge difference in an area with an average year-round temperature of 18 degrees?

After the Easter fiestas, Spain starts to look forward to the summer.. Beach clothes are back in the shops, people start to arrive to their holiday homes to prepare them for the summer months ahead and everywhere you look there are people painting walls and fences.. It’s at this time of year we realise that summer is just around the corner.

Although we have very pleasant weather all year round, with exception of a few days of rain (less than 30 per year on average), there is a noticeable difference not only in the warmth of the sun, but also in the way we live our lives. It’s a fact that the Spanish love their summers and at this time of year they are starting to live their lives more outdoors. On the beach there is already a great atmosphere, particularly at weekends and the coastal bars and restaurants are starting to become busy in the evenings. The parks and cycle lanes are busy with families getting out to enjoy the first hazy afternoons and the airport has lines of sparkling new hire cars ready for the summer visitors.

But in the lovely, traditional, Spanish towns that dot our coastline, the change is all the more evident.. The town halls are busy preparing lists of fiestas and festivals for the locals and visitors to enjoy, with most weekends from now until October featuring some kind of event. This weekend, the town of Benijofar (home to our main office) is having a “Tapas Route” for example. This is a great event, where everyone is invited to try a small drink and a sample Tapas dish in each of the town’s bars for a token price. Not only does this mean that you learn a few new places you probably didn’t even know existed, but it also makes for good fun, as each bar tries to out-do their rivals with ever more inventive and delicious tapas dishes. Events like this make life in Spain interesting and enjoyable and add that little bit of fun we all love so much.

So next time you’re in Spain, think about visiting one of the small local towns and take some time to find out what’s going on in the area. You might just have a great day and make some new friends along the way..
